Saab Skeldar Off Somali Coast

Saab's Skeldar rotary-wing unmanned aerial system is operating off the Spanish navy's ocean patrol vessel BAM Meteoro as part of the EU's Operation Atalanta counter-piracy mission off the Somali coast.

Skeldar is operated together with a manned helicopter to improve the warship's surveillance capabilities.

Before this operational deployment of Skeldar, integration trials were conducted on board the Meteoro's sister ship, BAM Relámpago, off the Canary Islands.

The Meteoro left its home port of Las Palmas in the Canary Islands on 15 July 2013 and is scheduled to return in December.
