Interactive Map: Retired FedEx Boeing 727s Dot The Globe

FedEx donated its 84th and last Boeing 727 last week to Beavercreek Schools in Dayton, Ohio, marking the end of more than 13 years of 727 donations. The aircraft, N221FE, was a 727-200 model that was delivered to Air Canada in 1974 and sold to FedEx in 1986. Its short 26 minute hop from Indianapolis to Dayton also represented the last-ever 727 flight by FedEx.
Using data from Aviation Week Intelligence Network's Fleet database, Aviation Week has created an interactive map showing the locations of FedEx's donated Boeing 727s. Search for any donated 727 simply by typing in the tail number or the recipient of the aircraft in the search bar on the map. Maps pins are color-coded as to the recipient's category (museum, school, or ARFF/law enforcement training).
Note that the map pin locations and addresses refer to the general location of the aircraft only and do not necessarily refer to their precise location or recipient's address. In addition, aircraft may not be publicly visible at each location.

The 727-25C at Cecil Field in Jacksonville, FL is the former Eastern Airlines N8153G. I logged time flying this 727at Eastern.

This is a very nice story and it is good to see these aircraft put to good use but "dot the globe"? There is more to this planet than just North/Central America

My comment was not intended to criticise Fdex but to suggest that 3 out of 75 or 86 does not constitue "dot the globe". Literally of course it does but the term conveys more than that.

Somebody please remind me. We all the 727 QC's all 727-100's and these FedEx freighters are all modifications with a cargo door cut in later?

They are a few -100s and and mostly -200s on the list. Almost all were modified to be freighters after serving in a pax role.

FedEx's has given an additional life to the B727, their donation's will serve the maintenance training outfits. The few B727 100 QC quick conversions that FedEx did operate were formerly from The Wings Of Man Eastern Airlines. The aircraft were built as freighters by Boeing with Boeing doors and structurally sound frame. Prior to FedEx these aircraft flew approx. 18 hrs. in a 24 hr. period. Freighter by night and passenger by day. It took a dedicated and well trained outfit to keep them competing with other carriers but Eastern accomplished that with excellent A&P mechanics throughout their system. FedEx gave the B727's new life as freighters and it served FedEx well. One of the best aircraft flying. my opinion the B777 will surpass the great B727. 35 years of hands on maintenance with the 3 holler, mostly while everyone else was tucked away in bed. Aloha Airlines operated B737 passenger to freighter carrying freight at night to several of the Hawaiian islands by night and converted back to passenger for day operations. Airbus Hmmm

FAA Flight Inspection Group operated 727-100s home based in Honolulu. As part of their duties, they carried pax and freight to the FAA facilities at Wake Is., Guam, Canton Is. and American Samoa. Their flight inspection responsibility extended to Diego Garcia, Siri Lanka, Bangladesh and countries in-between. Beautiful aircraft.
