Delta Air Lines buying SAS MD-80s

Delta Air Lines has recently purchased an MD-82 from SAS, revealing that they are the mystery buyer behind the purchase of SAS's 4 MD-80s along with 19 options. The first aircraft was purchased on 9/11/12 after being ferried to Marana. The aircraft are believed to have been purchased for parts as Delta does not operate the MD-81/82/83, but does have a large fleet of MD-88s and MD-90s (in addition to 19 DC-9-50s that are being phased out).
