CSeries - Countdown Continues

It is October 15, and Bombardier says it has begun final assembly of the first flight-test CSeries, FTV1. Publicly, the Canadian manufacturer is still aiming for a first flight by year-end, but admits it could slip into early next year. But Bombardier is still planning to deliver the first CSeries to a customer by the end of 2013.

In the Oct. 15 release, Bombardier says the "cockpit and all fuselage sections" of FTV1 have arrived at Mirabel, Quebec, and "assembly is in progress". Back on Sep. 14, the company said major components of FTV1 were "on schedule for arrival in late September."

No mention of the wing for FTV1, but the first shipset of Bombardier Belfast-supplied composite wings are being mated to the complete aircraft static test (CAST) article (above) in its fixture at St Laurent, Quebec. The company also says that testing of avionics, electrical, fly-by-wire flight control, hydraulic, landing gear and wiring systems is "progressing steadily" through virtual flights of the "Aircraft 0" iron-bird integrated systems test and certification rig (ISTCR).
