How do small satellites maintain their edge in an environment where technology is constantly being updated? With smartphones, of course. Frank Morring, who on Aug. 2 heads to the Small Satellite Conference in Logan, Utah, has the details on how smartphones are the low-cost way to add the latest processors, cameras and GPS receivers into space. Beyond that novel development, Morring also reports on tapping the underserved market for launching tiny satellites into orbit.
