An MD-83 operating on behalf of Air Algerie crashed in Mali on July 24. Contact was lost 50 min. after takeoff from Ouagadougou and the aircraft came down around 70 km from the city of Gao, according to Air Algerie. Flight AH5017 from Ouagadougou/Burkina Faso to Algiers was operated by Spanish wet-lease company Swiftair. According to Swiftair, the MD-83 was supposed to arrive in Algiers at 0510 GMT.
